Holiday Letter

I’m sorry ya’ll! I’ll get back into the swing of blogging when I can catch my breath! For how, here’s the holiday letter.

Happy Holidays from the S******* family! 2007 has been a year of growth for our family. Life is full of adventure and surprises with two young ones running about.

In January, both Colin and Delaney experienced a light snow. This was Colin’s first snowfall ever! He enjoyed riding around in our little sled. Unfortunately it wasn’t enough snow for much and it only stuck around for a few hours, but we took some fun photos for long lasting memories.

In March, Delaney smeared an entire tub of Vasoline on herself, her hair, her bedding, her clothes…EVERYWHERE! Figuring out the best way to de-Vaseline hair was a challenge. After several days, her hair finally returned to normal with the help of many many washings, cornstarch, hair drying, and Goo Gone. It was one for the record books!

In April, we took our first family vacation to Oak Island, North Carolina. We rented a small house on the beach for four days. The weather was a bit cold, but we had fun playing in the sand, flying kites and visiting an old friend.

Colin celebrated his first birthday on June 4th. We had the “traditional” family party to usher him into his second year. His cup cakes were decorated with a surfboard theme, and Colin received an awesome Retro Rocket that continues to get a lot of attention in our house!

The fall brought the advent of preschool! Colin and Tara have enjoyed their special one-on-one time this fall while Delaney has thoroughly enjoyed the preschool experience. She enjoys her teachers Ms. Shelley and Ms. Sabrina immensely. She is attending a home-based Waldorf-inspired preschool three mornings per week.

Sadly, we lost our cat PC (aka Bubba) this October; he died quickly and quietly in Chris’ arms at home. Our chickens have been busy this winter laying eggs. We finally got our first egg from one of our gals this November. Zoey, the most tolerant dog on the planet, remains live and well and has become an excellent kid and chicken rouser!

Delaney celebrated her third birthday on November 30 with a “real” birthday party! We celebrated with a zoo animals theme and had several activities, including making animal magnets and dressing up with animal masks.

Chris’ garage-based business Neuse Works is continuing to thrive and we are continuing our water conservation efforts by selling rain barrels. He has been taking the business to a local Farmer’s Market, which has been quite fun.

Thinking back over the year we are thankful that are children are healthy, our family is together and well, and that the children are getting older! Colin started walking and talking this year, and Delaney has matured into such a little girl now and no longer the toddler she was at the beginning of the year.

We wish you all a happy and healthy holiday and 2008. Please don’t forget to keep in touch. You can email us at tara@**** or chris@**** or give us a call at ***-***-****. You can keep up with the children’s antics at Tara’s blog – http://taraleigh.taraandchris.com. We are working on updating their websites and consolidating them into one; we hope to have this complete in early-2008.

Sincerely,

Chris, Tara, Delaney and Colin

I want to do that PowerJump. It looks like a blast. I know my boys would both love it and J would never want to come home. Ever. We would have some major tears and need some Calms Forte. And then I’d grumble under my breath “We are never going back there, ever.” But we would because those minutes that he was flying, the smile on his face and the shrieks of glee would be worth it!
