What’s going on?

Delaney went to Dr. Dave, her dentist, today.  She has perfect teeth!  She is such a big girl - she sat in the dental chair by herself, let them brush and poke around at her teeth, and didn’t fuss or cry or anything!  She wore her little sunglasses so the light didn’t get in her eyes and enjoyed picking a prize from the treasure chest.  I’m so proud of her.  It’s a testament to my parenting (right?) that she is a total beast with me but a pleasure with strangers (right?) and only a beast at preschool on “bad” days (RIGHT??).  Ack - sometimes I wish I was a stranger!

Today when we were driving home from the dentist, Delaney started singing along to Material Girl by Madonna!  I cracked up - I didn’t know we listened to Madonna *that* much!  But apparently she “loves” that song.

We finally put our tree up yesterday.  The benefit of decorating only a week before the holiday?  Cheap trees!  Chris found a small, very perfect tree for us at a local store for only $15!  Excellent!  We put it up on a low table so the children can only reach the very bottom bit, and they are doing quite well at keeping the tree standing!  I don’t think we put a tree up last year, so Delaney probably doesn’t remember having a tree.

We are going through round two of night-weaning Colin.  It’s a challenge, but I really hope it’s worth it!  Round one was from bed time until about 3/4 a.m.  This time I’m pushing him until 6 a.m.  Tonight is night 4.  Night 1 was as I had expected; night 2 was PERFECT (read: too perfect), but night 3 (last night) was torture!  He woke up every few minutes for most of the night; Chris and I ended up taking shifts.  He didn’t want to nurse, he just wanted to cry!  I don’t know what his story was last night, but let’s hope for a repeat of night 2 tonight.

Did you know that Yule is this Saturday and Christmas is only a week away?  Yeah, feeling stressed now?  I am!  I kept thinking I had all this time, and all of a sudden, it’s THIS WEEKEND!  Poor Chris might be opening gifts right from the packaging and not wrapped up in pretty fabric bags.

Oh - very importantly…we got 4 new chickens!  One of Chris’ previous customers is moving cross-country and asked us to take their chickens, so I picked them up Saturday.  They are all getting along horribly and pecking at each other, but no one has died yet.  They should settle down into a new pecking order in a few days, though.

That’s the scoop!

She’s a beast with you because she trusts you and feels totally comfortable with you! She can let her gaurd down and totally be herself. It should be a compliment that she feels so secure when you’re around! :)

Amy is the same, wonderful for everyone else, but a terror for me.

Good luck with the night time weaning. I need to do it, but I can’t bring myself to yet. Maybe when Nathan is on holidays so he is home with me.

We did night weaning with both Delaney & Colin, but with Colin, it never worked that well. I think my resolve wasn’t as strong as it was with Delaney since I was pregnant then. Maybe I’ll post Delaney’s sleep story next…
