Sick sucks
We’ve had a different Christmas this year. We spent Christmas Day with my family, which was nice. Colin seemed much better, although his appetite didn’t return until about Wednesday or Thursday. My grandmother, aunt & uncle from CT and uncle from VA were visiting, so the kids got to spend time with their great-relatives.
The kids got some awesome stuff from Hearthsong; Colin got a marble run and Delaney got the neatest wooden matching game. They also got some Melissa & Doug food for their kitchen set, the Melissa & Doug Ramp Racer Game, and some great hand-made bean bags!
Wednesday we hosted a little lunch for the family and the kids got to show off all their new toys.
Wednesday night sucked! Delaney threw up several times throughout the night, and Colin decided that sleep was totally overrated - like more overrated than he had originally thought, so Chris and I were up all night long between the two kids. Thursday morning we were supposed to head to visit Chris’ family at the beach, but that plan was thwarted by throw up. On Thursday morning, Delaney acted and sounded fine. She was great, in fact - running around singing and playing and eating waffles. So we decided to leave Friday (yesterday) for the in-laws instead.
Three hours in the car, lots of screaming (by Colin) and stops for pooping (Delaney) later, we arrived at the in-laws and dug into a meat fit for a palace, followed by a mountain of gift opening. The children were totally and completely UNinterested in opening presents! One of the first gifts they opened was a huge tub of MegaBloks and decided that playing with those was way better than opening presents! They were just totally maxed out, I think.
So we got to the condo we were staying in, took all our luggage up the three flights of stairs, and settled in for the night. Overall, the kids did pretty well considering they were in a different place. But Colin was up before the sun, so he and I watched infomercials in the morning, then took a long walk on the beach (he on my back in the Ergo) . We came back to a puny Delaney watching Noggin (we don’t have cable - this is a pretty big deal). She was clingy and didn’t want to eat. She also had diarrhea - poor girl
So we headed back to the in-laws, finished the gift opening (we couldn’t fit it all into one evening, so we had to save some for today!) and headed home. I feel terrible for my father-in-law who found this awesome condo for us to stay in for three nights for our holiday visit, and we only stayed one. But as he says, shit happens…literally in our case this time.
On a happy note, the children both slept in the car the whole trip back. Colin fell asleep before we even hit the highway and was still asleep 2 1/2 hours later when we pulled onto our street. Delaney was awake about the last 15 minutes of the trip. Both of them needed a nice nap.
So currently, Colin has eaten an unbelievable amount of food in the last few days, but he is as horse as can be from overworking his voice with all this screaming and crying. I’m taking him to the doctor on Monday for a check-in - something just isn’t right with him. He is obviously in pain - he’ll sleep normally if we give him Motrin, but once the Motrin wears off, he wakes up every 15 to 30 minutes. Delaney is doing better. She decided to eat a bit tonight - hooray! We hope tomorrow is even better than today. Chris and I are happy that the holidays are OVER! It has been a stressful year - most likely because of the sicky sicks. We can’t wait to spent our gift cards, including our yummy gift card to Cold Stone Creamery! I’ve already lined up Gremmie to babysit on Monday so we can hit Target and Cold Stone sans kiddos!
Photos are coming! We didn’t even take any photos of our family Yule celebration! But we do have photos of the other celebrations.

POor little pets, being sick is awful. Even worse when you can’t make them better.
Happy New Year!
