Sleep logs
In my quest to find a solution, I’m re-reading No Cry Sleep Solution for Toddlers & Preschoolers by Elizabeth Pantley. I’m also keeping a sleep log for about a week to get a really good idea of our nights. I’ve started bringing Colin into my bed sometime in the night with the hope that I’ll get at least a few hours of only minimally-interrupted sleep. So here’s last night’s sleep log (night #1):

Lovely, isn’t it? Last night was an especially difficult night. He usually doesn’t wake up and cry hysterically for 30 minutes. But the frequency of the wake-ups is pretty normal, I’d say…
We’re still seeking a solution. Still not sure what we’re going to do - if we do anything.

There is a familiar pattern. That sounds like Amy all over, or how she used to be a month ago. She would only fall back asleep nursing though, nothing else was good enough.
I hope you find something that works for you soon.

oh my goodness. and here i’ve been getting discouraged/tired/frustrated when julian wakes 4-5 times a night (which is pretty much every night). i hope you can find a solution soon. that has to be hard on both of you. i just thank god that my kids usually sleep in until around 8 a.m.

Teething? Ear infection? Tummy upset? Can you load him up on teething tablets & acidophilus and see if that helps? Mine have done this and, I agree, it bites the big one! L is currently in a phase where he only wakes once in the night (usually in the middle of two 4 hour stretches and that’s it!) which is lovely but then we’ll have one night where he’s whimpering every 30 minutes. And still will only stay horizontal for 8 hours total. Not a lot of sleep happening here and we’re on pox watch - exposed today!

[...] These are Colin’s last two sleep logs for now. We are heading out of town for the weekend. These last two are what I’d call “typical” for Colin when we’re in a good phase of sleep. Sleep ebbs and flows - we have good nights and bad nights. This is what I look forward to after a couple of weeks of nights like the first night! [...]

[...] Colin has a little cold :( Not too bad. Still with just the runny nose - no fever, no coughing, no other symptoms (except back to sleeping like crap!). [...]
