I-95 in GA SUCKS!
So I thought I-95 in NC was bad, especially after passing into SC. But then came GA, and that sealed the deal. In FL, it was nice again…until Jacksonville. Then sucked again.
Fifty miles into GA, traffic was at a standstill. S-T-A-N-D-S-T-I-L-L. Imagine…you’ve been in the car with your kids for like 6 hours. They have just woken up from their naps, wondering why they are STILL in the car. You know you’ve got like 4 more hours to go. And then…standstill. I called 5-1-1 (does this work in every state? I love it!). There was a lane closed at mile-marker 67. We were at mile marker 79! Ugh…
The silver lining? We detoured! AND - we didn’t get lost!! It seems lots of other people had the same idea - punch the trip into GPS and tell it to avoid interstate. But, no one else had broadband! I pulled up a map of the area we were in, and found this little country road that cut off a huge chunk of the detour. We opted to give it a try - afterall, Google Maps said it would work. It was LOVELY! We took about 2 miles of dirt road between highways that was absolutely beautiful. We saw so many large hardwood trees just draped with Spanish moss. Some areas were like driving through a cave! The beauty was lost on the kids, but Chris and I enjoyed it. (I do have photos, but I can’t find my camera at the moment. I’ll update this post with photos tomorrow)
So after that lovely detour, we reached the highway again at exit 67, but there was road construction for the rest of GA. They said it was only 22 miles, but they lied. It was more like 222! You can’t imagine my elation when we finally reached FL!
Please remind me? Why are we going to FL during spring break week? We must be batty!
