Florida, Day 3 - Wildlife Refuge
Today we went to the Merritt Island National Wildlife Refuge. We had a great time, but our GPS failed us by sending us through a road that was closed to public travel (the road through the NASA base).
Lets start at the beginning: We got up this morning too early (again) and checked out of our crappy hotel. We drove around for a little while to find a restaurant with a wait less than an hour…we finally settled on Dunkin Donuts with a line out the door! Then we checked out a local park and saw a bunch of cormorants and pelicans. Exciting! The kids also spent some time playing around - the weather was GORGEOUS!

Then we drove up to the wildlife refuge, and saw an ALLIGATOR on the side of the road! I thought Delaney was going to pass out with excitement. Chris and she got out of the car to see it “up close” and personal - sort of…

We got to the visitors center (finally) and what did we find? A FULL SIZED ALLIGATOR! Say it isn’t so! Delaney couldn’t stop hugging and kissing it.

AND THEN we went on their short nature walk, and saw a REAL BABY ALLIGATOR just under the dock! The mama wasn’t too far away either, but she was in the water and hard to see.

The nature trail - we saw too many lizards to count and a myriad of flora.

Lastly, we went to the manatee lookout and saw three manatees. By this point, the kids were so overwhelmed and tired that they just temper tantrumed the whole time we were at Haulover Canal. Oh well - Chris and I thought they were cool.

We have no idea what we are doing tomorrow. We have tickets to both Sea World in Orlando and the Kennedy Space Center visitors complex. We also want to hit the beach at least once, take a dip in the backyard pool and check out the new Ikea in Orlando. What to do?
