Florida: Day 4
Yesterday we didn’t do much. We went grocery shopping in the morning and made a quick trip to Target to get a few things we either forgot or didn’t have. We enjoyed the sunny Florida weather for the rest of the morning.
Yesterday afternoon we went to Ikea in Orlando. Orlando is about 45-50 minutes from Merritt Island - it’s a quick, easy drive. We spent the afternoon at Ikea, picking up some odds and ends and a new bed for the kids. We’re pretty excited about it! We’re going to have to pack it onto the roof on the way home, though. We might be tossing some other stuff up there - we’ve been buying stuff like it’s going out of style :) But we’re on vacation - we’re allowed!
Yesterday evening we ate dinner at the Ikea Cafe. It was quite good! The food was VERY affordable and fresh. I can’t wait for the new Ikea opening on Charlotte next year - it can’t open soon enough!
This morning (day 5) we went to the Kennedy Space Center. Luckily our friends (who both work at NASA) got us free tickets - admission is $38 for an adult! Anyhow, it wasn’t exactly the activity we were looking for. It just isn’t the place for young children. It is a great place for elementary age children through adult, but the kids just didn’t *get* it and weren’t really into it. We had a hard time navigating the mini-park. We were hoping to find some hands-on activities for the kids, but every exhibit we came to was a multi-media exhibit, and the kids weren’t really interested in sitting down and watching short video after short video. We did find several locations to spend lots of money, though! We tried to see one of the IMAX videos, but we weren’t able to get in (the theater was full). When they say get there 15 minutes early, they really mean get there 20 minutes early! I was kind of bummed that we missed it, but it might have frightened the children, anyway. Delaney isn’t crazy about loud activities and probably would have kept her head buried and her hands over her ears the entire time.
On the way back from the space center, we stopped at an abandoned orange orchard and picked some tangerines. Delaney and I enjoyed some fresh citrus fruit literally right off the tree! The entire orchard was not being kept up and much of the fruit was rotten on the tree, but we found a couple of tangerine (tangelo?) trees that had some good fruit. YUM!
We plan on just laying low the rest of the afternoon, but who knows what will happen after naps! It’s cool and windy here today, so the beach is out - unfortunately.
Tomorrow we plan to head to Sea World!
