All About Colin
Colin. What a kid! When he’s not acting like your quintessential two year old, he is SO cute and FUNNY! He’s a little comedian. Here are a few fun facts about Colin:
- He LOVES to sing! After hearing a song only a couple of times, he will sing the words right along with you. His favorite song might be “Twinkle Twinkle Little Star,” which he plays/sings all the time. He has a little puzzle that sings Twinkle Twinkle every time he pushes “the button,” and he reminds us that “he pushes the button” every time he hears the song. Some other favorites are “Puff the Magic Dragon, ” Laurie Berkner’s “Moon Moon Moon,” “ABC’s”, and a few made-up-by-mom-and-dad-songs, including “Tumble Bumble” and “Sleepy Song.”
- He is a talker! Before bed, he likes to reconstruct his day through conversation. Most of the conversations start with “Yesteday” or “One day” and then lead into what we did that day. So for example, he might say “One day, we went to the mall with Gremmie and Poppy. And…and we ATE there! We ate at the mall with Gremmie and Poppy. One day?”
He really enjoys wearing hats and necklaces. He can do without the “dress up” part of dressing up, but give him a hat, a necklace and some glasses, and he’s good to go!- He is a sticker for daily rhythm and the same-old-thing. It’s hard for Colin to change his routine.

- He really REALLY dig’s OATMEAL! He asks for it often, and eats it regularly.
- Colin likes to watch Elmo’s World. He can do without the rest of Sesame Street, and will actually fast forward through it with the TiVO remote begging for ELMO’S WORLD! He also really likes to watch Clifford the Big Red Dog.
- Colin LOVES to read books. We read the same books over and over (and over and over). This week’s favorite is I Took the Moon for a Walk by Carolyn Curtis. Other favorites include Tumble Bumble, Elmo’s Birthday Party, Happy to You, and Duck on a Bike. He has other favorites, and enjoys checking new books out at the library. He does enjoy reading about Clifford the Big Red Dog, Bob the Builder and Curious George.
- He enjoys sports and is a real “outdoorsman.” He enjoys a good campfire, playing outside and getting dirty. He likes swinging sticks around, playing hockey, playing with his soccer ball, and throwing around sticks, leaves and rocks.
- Colin is very expressive. He will tell you exactly what’s going on. If he’s crying and we ask him “What happened,” he’ll answer with his exact complaint: “I bumped by toe” or “I fell down and bumped by leg.”
- He is compassionate. He will ask he “Mommy, are you OK? I kiss it Mommy. ::SMOOCH:: There ya go, Mommy. All better.”
- He is ticklish!
- He loves sweet pickles, whole apples, and black beans.
- Colin is very attached. He likes the security of having Mom and Dad around. He does great when Gremmie and Poppy come to stay, but is not interested in being in any different place without Mom or Dad, even if Delaney is there. So that means no gym fun room, no church nursery, no babysitters. One day…
- Colin enjoys stickers and tattoos. He thinks they are great.
- Colin still nurses two or three times per day/night. He really digs it.
- Colin is pretty analytical (compared to his sister, at least). He enjoys playing with his shape sorter, and has the ability to concentrate on something like a tray puzzle or sorter for more than 30 1/2 seconds. When he’s in the mood, he will play with his sorter for a good 15 minutes.
- He is kind of obsessed with trains right now! We pull the track out at least once per day, build an elaborate track scene and spend several minutes watching the trains go around and around and up and down.
- Colin is cautious. He doesn’t like to climb too high or jump too far. He isn’t interested in things that
go fast, are too bumpy, are too wild, or too big. He’s a looker, a let-me-get-comfy-with-this, then maybe-I’ll-try-it kind of guy. - He loves the ocean and the moon. He’s moderately cool with swimming in the ocean, but he loves to observe the ocean. Same with the moon. He can find and will point out the moon in the night sky before any of us! He is drawn to the ocean and the moon.
